Sam Salt named as LTA North Coach of the Year

Sam Salt from Graves Health and Sports Centre in Sheffield has been named as the LTA North Region Coach of the Year. Sam got the nod ahead of a strong list of contenders from across the North of England that had won their respective county coach of the year awards, to pick up the prestigious trophy. Sam, who was named Sheffield & District Coach of the Year in November, will now move forward to the shortlist for National Coach of the Year, which is due to be announced in June.
Sam forged a reputation as one of the leading coaches in the region during 2018, with a number of his pupils achieving some outstanding results. The development of the performance programme at Graves Health and Sports Centre under Sam's leadership was recognised as they became an LTA Local Player Development Centre this year and Sam was also the Yorkshire 10&U County Captain, leading the team to finish as national runners up. His dedication to providing the best learning environment for his players was recognised and highly commended by the Regional Awards Panel.
A number of other South Yorkshire venues and individuals were also recognised but just missed out on claiming the regional award. Barnsley LTC finished as runners up in the Club of the Year category after an excellent year in 2018 that saw the club facilities redeveloped which resulted in significant membership and programme growth. Graves Health and Sports Centre also claimed second spot in the Community Venue of the Year award after a year that had seen a huge increase in the tennis programme.
Jessica Redfearn was the runner up in the Volunteer of the Year category. Jess makes a massive contribution to tennis in South Yorkshire and deserves the recognition for her efforts. Finally the South Yorkshire Open Court Programme was also named as runner up in the Disability Tennis category. The programme has continued to grow over the last year and provide a range of tennis opportunities for people with disabilities.
